Hello all you beloved paying subscribers to Mothers Under the Influence!
I have some news: Starting in May, this newsletter will be published at a new home, New York Magazine’s The Cut. It will have a new name, and an expanded scope! I very much hope that you all will follow me over there, and read my new newsletter BROODING: Deep thoughts on modern family life.
I am just so grateful for your support these past months. You will no longer be charged for your subscriptions, and access to all of BROODING will be free.
As a way of saying thank you to everyone who has been paying for Mothers Under the Influence, you are entitled to a free, 12-month subscription to New York Magazine’s digital content, which includes full access to essential sites like The Cut, Vulture and Curbed. You can access your free subscription by using the code BROODING here.
What can you expect from BROODING? In addition to my ongoing analysis of the world of momfluencers, I’ll be thinking about digital culture’s entanglements with the commodification of family life, and looking at all sorts of discourses and trends related to domesticity. I’m hoping to dig deeper into urgent current issues like the crises in American child care and teenage mental health, while also making time for serious topics like Rae Dunn pottery collectors and my abiding obsession with neutral-toned home interiors. BROODING will be everything you’ve come to expect from Mothers Under the Influence, with a widened lens.
If you don’t wish to subscribe to BROODING, you have until Sunday, May 8 to opt out through Substack, by unsubscribing to Mothers Under the Influence. Otherwise, you will automatically be subscribed and will receive the first issue on May 13. If you’re sticking around, I recommend adding email@example.com to your contacts now to avoid future editions getting stuck in your spam folders.
If you ever need to check out the Mothers Under the Influence archive, it will still live on Substack, but you won’t receive emails from me at that address anymore. And if you’re eager to read about any topics in particular, please drop me a note at firstname.lastname@example.org. I would love to hear from you.
I want to thank you so much for supporting Mothers Under the Influence in its first incarnation. I hope you’ll join me for the next chapter, and I assure you that the vibes are intact.
So exciting and so well deserved
